The general trend in India after passing class 12th is going for studying in an engineering, medical or law college. It takes minimum 4 years to get a degree in these fields.
Just after passing class 12th you are eligible to start your journey to become a pilot. Pilot training in India will be completed in just 2 years and you will have the commercial pilot license in hand and will be ready to fly and realise your dreams.
Don’t worry if you don’t have Physics or Maths as subjects in class 12th you can meet the eligibility by clearing the Physics and Maths exam through open board, NIOS.
Now coming back to my question how to start Pilot training in India?
Clear 6 DGCA Exams – Course Duration-6 Months
DGCA is the governing body of Pilots in India that issues CPL. DGCA conduct these Pilot exams, also known as DGCA CPL Exams. The total number of DGCA Exams you need to clear to become a pilot in India are a total of 6 DGCA Exams. This is the 1st phase where your Pilot Training in India begins and the preparation for the DGCA Subjects takes almost 6 months.
Parallely you can start with the 2nd step that is to get your DGCA Pilot Medical done.
To become a pilot in India you should be fit and healthy. You need to get 2 Pilot Medical done namely
CLASS 2 MEDICAL
CLASS 1 MEDICAL
The final step of Pilot training in India is to complete 200 hours of flying done in a DGCA authorised Flying school.
Flying training can be done in 2 ways
You can do Flying training from India, in that case you have to pass 6 DGCA Exams as mentioned above and time taken will be around 1-2 years.
You can do Flying training from abroad, in that case you have to pass only 3 or 4 DGCA Exams depending on the country from where you are doing your flying training from.
If you choose a flying school in USA then you need to clear 4 DGCA Exams and time duration is around 8 to 12 months
If you choose a flying school in New Zealand then you need to clear 3 DGCA Exams and time duration is around 10 months.
If you choose a flying school in Australia then you need to clear 3 DGCA Exams and time duration is around 12 months.
If you choose a flying school in South Africa then you need to clear 3 DGCA Exams and time duration is around 12-15 months.
After completing flying in abroad you will get the Commercial Pilot license of the respective country and now that needs to be converted into a Indian DGCA CPL License. The process for that is you need to give 10-15 hours of day and night practical flying checks in India and you will get your abroad license converted into Indian CPL.
